In this method, we would make use of the Protect Document feature which is pre-installed feature on the Word Document application.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 1. Open the document which you wish to encrypt with password and click on \u201cFile\u201d menu. Choose \u201cInfo\u201d option from the drop down menu.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 2. Now; click on \u201cProtect Document\u201d option from the right hand side of the screen.<\/span><\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> For Word 2007, click on Microsoft Office <\/em><\/strong>button, and then select Prepare<\/em><\/strong> and then Encrypt Document<\/em><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 3. On clicking \u201cProtect Document\u201d option, you will get a context menu. select the \u201cEncrypt with Password\u201d option.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 4. A dialog box would pop-up labeled as \u201cEncrypt Document\u201d. Enter your password in the empty dialog box and click \u201cOk\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 5. Now; save your document.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your word document is password protected. In order to remove the password protection, follow the same steps and simply remove the password from the empty box and then save it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Method #2: Password Protect Word Documents with File> Save As<\/span><\/h3>\n

This is another method to password protect your word documents but you don\u2019t need to use any \u201cProtect Document\u201d feature. Rather we would use the usual Save As option to carry out the password protection task. Go through the simple steps enlisted below:<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 1. Open your word document that you wish to password protect and from the \u201cFile\u201d menu, and click \u201cSave As\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 2. In the \u201cSave As\u201d dialog box, click on \u201cTools\u201d and from the drop down menu select \u201cGeneral options.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 3. A new window of \u201cGeneral Options\u201d will appear where you get to see an empty dialog box. Enter your password in the empty box or you can later edit it as per your requirement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 4. Once you have done with this much, click the \u201cOk\u201d button to finish the task of password protection.<\/span><\/p>\n

And there you go! So the next time, you would open the word document, it will first ask for the password which clearly indicates that the document is protected and now you can relax without worrying about the security of the document.<\/span><\/p>\n
